Tom Hardy drama about Islamophobia in the post-9/11 era finds director

Jackie director Pablo Larraín, whose latest Neruda is about to hit UK cinemas, has been tapped to direct the Tom Hardy-starrer The True American, Deadline reports.

The film adapts Anand Giridharadas’ nonfiction book of the same name, which follows the story of Rais Bhuiyan, the Muslim immigrant and Bangladesh Air Force veteran who narrowly survived an attack in Texas on himself and two others by Mark Anthony Stroman, in the days following 9/11.

Stroman’s horrific hate crime saw him launch into a killing spree which targeted anyone he perceived as Arab; the book’s title deriving from Stroman’s self-styling of himself as “the Arab Slayer” who perversely saw himself as “a true American”.

The attack left both Pakistani immigrant Waqar Hasan and Indian immigrant Vasudev Patel dead; Stroman survived, though he lost sight in one of his eyes. Despite the horrors Bhuiyan lived through, he came to forgive Stroman and strived to prevent his execution.

The project, and Hardy’s attachment, has been floating around since 2014, with Kathryn Bigelow originally attached to direct; she will now produce the project alongside Megan Ellison, Matthew Budman, and Juan de Dios Larraín.

With Larraín’s Jackie having earned its star Natalie Portman an Oscar nomination for her depiction of the former First Lady in the immediate aftermath of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, it’s safe to say the director’s next project will be one to watch.

Taboo series 2 confirmed: Tom Hardy to return to BBC1 as “the devil Delaney”

BBC1’s grimy, gritty drama series Taboo starring Tom Hardy will be back for a second series, the BBC have confirmed.

The period drama written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, will officially return with eight new episodes to BBC1 after star Hardy said that there was more story to tell.

An air date for Taboo series two has yet to be revealed, but writer Knight has previously been confident of a renewal, telling RadioTimes.com that he was expecting at least two more series.

“We think it has got a two and a three certainly, that’s the plan,” Knight said. “After that who knows? This series is eight parts – it’s a lot of time.”

The series will continue to be broadcast on BBC1 in the UK and FX in the United States. Following news of the recommission, star Tom Hardy said, “We are grateful and excited to continue our relationship with the BBC and FX in contributing towards British drama. Fantastic news.”

Steven Knight gave a hint of what was to come by saying that he would be taking James Delaney to the new world, following the series one finale which saw Hardy’s character sail off into the sunset.

“James Delaney will continue to explore many realities as he takes his band of misfits to a new world, thanks to FX and the BBC, partners who could not be more suited to collaborating in ground breaking work,” Knight said.

Director Ridley Scott, who was an executive producer for Taboo, added, “We’re thrilled people want to know what happens next and that the BBC and FX are up for more adventures with the devil Delaney and the league of the damned.

“Along with our international distributors, Sonar Entertainment, the BBC and FX have been great partners, supporting Taboo at every stage so it could be the dark, dirty brute of a drama that it is.”

The BBC said that the series has earned its recommission in part because of its success on BBC iPlayer, where it has earned a growing audience following its unusual Saturday night slot. Episode one earned the BBC its third highest iPlayer audience ever, just behind Sherlock and one-off drama Murdered By My Boyfriend.

“Launching in a new Saturday night slot on BBC1 provided us with an opportunity to take risks and showcase distinctive drama; and the growing talkability of Taboo has engaged younger audiences seeing record numbers coming to iPlayer, with the availability of the box set maximising audiences even further,” said director of BBC content Charlotte Moore. “A second series can’t come soon enough.”

What could happen in Taboo series two?

Tom Hardy says he’s ‘paying the price’ for his incredible Bane body transformation

Tom Hardy knows a thing or two about body transformations. He also knows they aren’t easy.

Over his career, the Academy Award-nominated actor added slabs of muscle to play a mixed martial arts fighter in Warrior and the titular criminal in Bronson, but nothing compares to what he did to play Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy transformed himself into one of the most physically dominating villains of all time with his training, doing four training sessions per day to add over 30 pounds of mass, muscle, and strength. Hardy truly looked like the super strong mastermind who breaks Batman’s back—but as he recently revealed, that transformation came at a cost.

“I think you pay the price with any drastic physical changes,” Hardy told The Daily Beast in an interview. “It was alright when I was younger… but I think as you get into your 40s you have to be more mindful of the rapid training, packing on a lot of weight and getting physical, and then not having enough time to keep training because you’re busy filming, so your body is swimming in two different directions at the same time… I haven’t damaged my body, but I’m certainly a bit achier than I used to be! I certainly have joints that click that probably shouldn’t click, you know what I mean? And carrying my children is a little bit harder than it used to be—but don’t tell them!”

Even though Bane and Batman are (likely) in the past for Hardy, there could be some more body transformations coming along. Hardy has signed on for more Mad Max sequels, and he recently locked in a deal to portray an aging Al Capone in a new film from Josh Trank.

“It’s not the classic Al Capone that you necessarily envision with the silhouette,” he said in the interview. “I don’t want to give too much away about it, but there’s definitely a transformation with that role. I don’t know if it’s as drastic as Bane. I’ve probably damaged my body too much. I’m only little! If I keep putting on weight I’ll collapse like a house of cards under too much pressure.”

Hardy is having himself quite the run as of late. Following his Academy Award-nominated role in The Revenant, he’s become the face a of the new FX show Taboo, and later this summer, he’ll reunite with Inception and Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan for Dunkirk, one of the 20 films we are super-pumped to see in 2017.

Keep ‘em coming, Tom. And maybe consider yoga.

How To Keep Your Home Cinema Safe At Home

Chances are you've made a few sacrifices and most likely spent a truckload of money on your home cinema. Now you are doing all that you can to preserve it in top condition, struggling not to wear it out too soon. But can you imagine your home being broken into one evening while you are out having dinner, with all your expensive equipment stolen? It could happen in the blink of an eye, but luckily there are ways of preventing it. Needless to say other factors such as power outages could also influence the physical integrity of your system. Below you will discover a few clever solutions to prevent these issues from happening so you can enjoy your home cinema for as long as possible.

How To Protect Your Equipment From Power Surges

  • Make sure that your fragile speakers and the rest of your home cinema equipment are well protected against power surges.

  • Buy a power surge protector to avoid the overheating of your amplifiers, as well as the melting of your tweeters. You do not want to be looking at your fried gear in a rack. You can also opt for an more expensive alternative that will monitor the voltage and automatically disconnect power when the voltage is either too high or too low.

  • Also think about using an uninterruptible power supply for the front and rear projection systems. They rely on fans that successfully keep the lamps cool.

  • Proper ventilation is also essential, as it will prevent the equipment from operating at higher temperatures than intended.

Physical Safety For Your Home Cinema

  • since you will be storing your home cinema in your entertainment room or your living room, start by properly securing your home. Strengthen security on all access doors as well as all of our windows and do not ignore your sliding balcony or terrace doors.

  • Talk to a professional locksmith in your area and set up an appointment. Have them assess the state of your locks and let them recommend better alternatives, in case you are not yet using the most advanced locks possible. Add deadbolt locks to your existing sets of locks or install completely new locks – preferably commercial grade-1 or grade-2 deadbolt locks. If your budget allows you, install electronic locks that you can control with your smartphone (such as bluetooth enabled deadbolts) consider the rest of the available solutions: mortise locksets, door strikes, deadbolts with smartkeys and so on. Take a look at the Nationwide Locksmith company here https://www.nationwidelocksmith.org/about-us and find out what they could do for you. They work at a national level, and they have a well-developed mobile team dispersed in all state, cities, and areas. They can reach any location within an estimate 20-minute time of response in case of an emergency signaled by calling (888) 254-5666.

  • A friendly and professional operator will answer your call and help you get all the details you need and set up a free estimate appointment. Licensed and insured locksmiths who are experienced will do a great job at installing, re-keying, or fixing any type of lock on the market, and even handle your home alarm problems.

  • Have well functioning locks on your windows as well and keep them locked and closed at all times. Use your A/C to regulate the temperature around the house instead of leaving your windows open during hot summer days and nights.

  • Install a surveillance system in your home cinema room and always enable your home alarm.
